Arroyo is an AVID school. AVID—Advancement Via Individual Determination—fosters a safe and open culture, high expectations for teachers and students, and collaboration in all classrooms.

What is AVID Schoolwide 

 

Schoolwide: AVID is schoolwide at Arroyo Verde. AVID is integrated into our Instruction, Systems, Leadership, and Culture of our school, ensuring middle school readiness for all our students and improved academic performance for all students based on increased opportunities.

Instruction: The teachers at Arroyo Verde have attended AVID training and utilizes AVID strategies, other best instructional practices, and 21st century tools to develop skills for a successful middle school experience. AVID students reflect and question while mastering content rather than just repeating and memorizing. Our students work together to problem solve and to change the level of discourse in the classroom as they prepare for success. Students are taught to articulate what they don’t understand and learn how to seek out the resources they need. By teaching critical thinking, inquiry, and self-advocacy, AVID educators empower students to own their learning. 

Systems: We believe that all students need to learn how to learn. Note-taking, studying, and organizing assignments are all skills that must be taught and practiced as part of our AVID skill focus. Systems are in place that support instruction, data collection and analysis, professional learning, and student and parent outreach to ensure improved academic performance for all students as we build the foundation for learning. 

Leadership: Arroyo Verde’s leadership sets the vision and tone to promote career readiness and high expectations for all students in the school. 

Culture: Arroyo Verde staff believe that all students need to develop the skills to allow them to choose any career path that they desire. The Arroyo Verde staff continues to ask students “What is your plan?” as we work to prepare them for the opportunities ahead.
